Vegan Garlic and Parsley Naan Bread

I made Vegetable curry with rice and Naan bread last night! I love ethnic foods! I especially love learning how to make ethnic foods. Whenever we go to an Indian Restaurant, Naan bread is top on the list. Alot of Traditional styles of Naan bread include yogurt in their recipes, however I don't include yogurt in mine since I do my best to cut back on dairy. This is my Vegan Garlic and Parsley Naan bread. It's simple, pan fried, requires a touch of patience and time but it's made to taste absolutely restaurant quality delish! Enjoy.

You'll need:
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 1 tsp active dry yeast
  • 3 Tbsp soy milk (or regular milk)
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp unrefined sugar
  • 1 3/4-2 cups bread flour
  • olive oil for cooking and brushing on naan
  • garlic and parsley powder

Step 1.
Using a large bowl, place warm water and yeast inside. Wait 15 minutes till the yeast begins to froth.

Step 2.
Add the salt, garlic parsley powder, flour, soy milk, unrefined sugar, to make a soft silky dough. You may need to add more or less flour to ensure the right texture.

Step 3.
Once combined, flour a kitchen surface so the dough does not stick and kneed the dough for roughly 10 mins, till there are no lumps and it feels soft to the touch.

Step 4.
Cover the dough lightly with a sprinkle of olive oil and place in a bowl covered with a damp (not wet) cloth. Then it's patience time! Wait 1 hr for the dough to double in size.

Step 5.
Once dough has risen, break off into golf ball sizes and place on a tray, then cover these with a damp cloth for an additional 30 mins (optional) till they double in size. This will ensure a not too flat naan bread!

Step 5.
Once the small dough pieces have risen, flatten them with the palm of your hand to form a circle/oval shape. Brush both sides with olive oil and prick with fork throughout.

Step 6.
In a hot pan on medium-high heat, heat olive oil and gently place naan bread inside. Cook for 2-3 minutes on each side checking regularly, until light brown in color.

Step 7.
Enjoy with your favorite Indian Cuisine!
