While living in Sydney, I was asked to help manage a guesthouse where I lived. Though the task seemed daunting at the time, I was lucky enough to share the role with my room mate, whom was new to it all as well. While the 'traveller' or 'lodger' may be oblivious to the hard work that goes into managing a guesthouse, the reality is just that, it's alot of work. Try doing this and working another full-time job.
Our huge 12 bedroom guesthouse was incredible, at times we'd have up to 30 people under the one roof! And it was the people that turned the daunting task of managing a guesthouse into a fun and riveting experience, especially learning and appreciating so many cultures. For over a year we'd see people come and go, and friendships that were born from our big guesthouse. It wasn't until after the year or so had passed and travelers came and went, that there was a termite infestation which was put into action and the guesthouse was condemned (it was like 100 years old or something anyway).
Because you live where you also kinda work, it's best to divide your time evenly so you have time for yourself as well.
& of course all of our dinners cooked by our guests and their traditional dishes from their home countries:
Okay maybe not the above chocolate cake.
^ Malaysia, Turkey, Germany, Brazil, Slovakia, Vietnam, Russia & Australia all in one photo haha!
