"If factory farms, dairy farms and well, any farm had
glass walls, or allowed the public access then we would all be vegetarians! "
It is sad to think that although something is considered cage-free, free-range or kosher, anti-biotic free, or hormone free, it can still wind up on our plates through a poor practice, a deceptive lie or even to the extend of animal cruelty. By many USFDA standards there are a long list of conditions which farms, factory farms and other meat or dairy processing plants or companies must abide to, but do not always.
Maybe you've seen the documentary, Earthlings, or maybe you saw Food Inc, Vegucated, Meet your Meat, Simply Raw, Food Matters, Fast Food Nation, Forks over Knives or Fresh and oh my word the list goes on. But the devastating truth is that it's easier for us as consumers to watch it or read about it but not see it first hand, to not know exactly if the standards for our food, organic or not or free-range meats are being met, or even if kosher is exactly kosher. This is the never-ending spiral of food and where it derived from. But with that notion pushed to the side, Vegetarianism for me came about through a change of lifestyle, almost like a habit I picked up after witnessing a rack of buffalo on a side street market in Thailand. But hey, I'll share more with you on that next time.
